Individual Research, Scopophilia, 2007

Scopophilia is an interactive installation artwork about surveillance.

Surveillance is ever present in modern life with CCTV and security camera’s, millions of mobile phones as well as internet tracking, phone tapping and data mining aiding in compiling personal data for sale, or for more ominous activities. Mostly this observation is touted as “for your own safety”, but a darker, more sinister aspect is clear.

Feelings of uncomfortableness and anxiety develop amongst the subjects of surveillance, while those on the other side, the powerful surveyors in control of the information feel fascination, the allure of the voyeur.

But what happens when the subjects of this scrutiny are suddenly granted the power of the voyeur?
