Soft Landing a geopolitical contexturalisation was created in 2006 as a part of a tin sheds art workshop 'Web Art and Design'. This major project was to develop a piece of web art related to security. Security is something that often we trust others about, we put our security in other peoples hands, our computers are being overrun by security systems.
'Soft Landing' is a graphical representation of the world stained by the Australian Governments published travel advisories. The flat map covered by flags textured by an image from each particular country the texture and the darkness related to the 5 level scale the government publishes to tell the population about where to travel. Do Not Travel is darkest, No Warning is palest. To highlight this a greyscale map is available to show exactly where is best avoided.
Australia is omitted, the government doesn't publish a travel advisory about itself.
